Lavender Twist Weeping Redbud is an unusual take on a tough native tree. This new variety "weeps," its twisting branches arching and cascading toward the ground. The effect is outstanding in the spring when the branches are completely laden with lavender blossoms. Then, in summer, its big, heart-shaped leaves spill down the branches in torrents of rich green. It is showy in autumn, too, when those leaves turn bright yellow. Even in winter it adds interest to the landscape when its dark, weeping, leafless branches are hung with ornaments of redbud seed pods. This low-maintenance tree needs little space, growing only 5 ft. to 6 ft. in height and spreading only 6 ft. to 8 ft.
