From the Manufacturer This is Academy's 1/48 scale plastic model kit of the Messerschmidt BF109E-3, a formidable aircraft in WWII. During the Battle of Britain, this plane was flown by Lieutenent Heinz Bar, one of the Luftwaffe’s highest scoring aces, with 10 victories. RAF Spitfires finally shot down Heinz Bar while flying this plane, but he was able to recover from enemy lines and later returned to action. He was also shot down a number of times but was always lucky enough to survive. He scored 221 total victories in many different theaters of the war including France, Russia and the African campaign. He was known to be a much undisciplined officer who went his own way. He was able to survive the war, but died in a civilian crash in 1957. It is pretty safe to say that the Bf-109 is the most famous German aircraft ever built. One of the most vastly produced aircraft in history, over 35,000 were built by Messerschmitt. It first saw action in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. The “E” version entered production in 1938 and was the first true mass-production model for the Bf-109. It was powered by a DB 601A engine with direct fuel injection, allowing for better performance under negative ‘G’. MRC/Academy’s version of the Messerschmitt Bf-109E 3 "Heinz Bar" is a Limited Edition early replica of this German marvel.
